Splitting Apart. It does not further one to go anywhere.

The mountain rests on the earth: the image of Splitting Apart. Those above can ensure their position only by giving generously to those below.

Interpretation

Hexagram 23 depicts a time of decline and disintegration. The foundations are eroding, and resistance would be futile. The wise course is to accept the situation gracefully and wait — for after the darkest point, renewal begins.
