Judgment

Darkening of the Light. In adversity it furthers one to be persevering.

The light has sunk into the earth: the image of Darkening of the Light. The superior person lives with the great mass, veiling his brightness yet still shining.

Interpretation

Hexagram 36 describes a time when light and intelligence are suppressed. Like the sun sinking beneath the earth, one's brilliance must be concealed to survive. This hexagram advises protecting one's inner light during dark times through discretion and endurance.
