䷋ 12. Standstill

Judgment

Standstill. Evil people do not further the perseverance of the superior person. The great departs, the small approaches.

Heaven and earth do not unite: the image of Standstill. The superior person falls back upon his inner worth.

Interpretation

Hexagram 12 is the opposite of Peace — a time of stagnation where communication breaks down and creative forces are blocked. The wise person withdraws inward, preserving their values while waiting for the natural cycle to reverse.
