Judgment

Grace has success. In small matters it is favorable to undertake something.

Fire at the foot of the mountain: the image of Grace. The superior person proceeds to clear up current affairs but dares not decide controversial issues.

Interpretation

Hexagram 22 celebrates beauty and form, but reminds us that grace is ornamental rather than essential. Aesthetic refinement has its place — in small matters and daily life — but substance must not be sacrificed for appearance.
