Judgment

The Well. The town may be changed, but the well cannot be changed. It neither decreases nor increases.

Water over wood: the image of the Well. The superior person encourages the people at their work and exhorts them to help one another.

Interpretation

Hexagram 48 speaks of the inexhaustible source of nourishment that lies within. Like a well that serves all who come to it without being depleted, true wisdom and vitality spring from deep, unchanging sources. One must maintain access to these depths.
