䷳ 52. L'Immobilisation

Judgment

Keeping Still. Keeping his back still so that he no longer feels his body. He goes into his courtyard and does not see his people. No blame.

Mountains standing close together: the image of Keeping Still. The superior person does not permit his thoughts to go beyond his situation.

Interpretation

Hexagram 52 teaches the art of meditation and stillness. Like a mountain that stands firm and unmoving, true stillness is not mere inactivity but a conscious centering of awareness in the present moment. The mind rests when it stops grasping beyond its situation.
