䷻ 60. La Limitation

Limitation. Success. Galling limitation must not be persevered in.

Water over the lake: the image of Limitation. The superior person creates number and measure and examines the nature of virtue and correct conduct.

Interpretation

Hexagram 60 teaches that appropriate limitations are essential for order and meaning. Like the banks of a river that give water its direction, reasonable boundaries create structure. But limitations must not become oppressive — they should be balanced and humane.
